I am trying to fundraise with my friends for a big sponsored run, where teams are expected to contribute at least a thousand pounds or so. we only have a months to go and we have the following planned:

I thought one of the purposes of wind energy was to reduce our overall carbon
footprint. i believe that wind does no such thing.
For starters, it takes an enormous amount of energy to manufacture and erect a
wind turbine. And unless you want countless eyesores, it also takes a lot of
energy to retire and remove a turbine. At 30% efficiency, I do not believe
that a turbine ever recovers its own carbon footprint.
Wind also requires a companion natural gas power plant to cycle and come on
instantaneously when wind isn't producing. This cycling increases emissions of
the gas plant and makes it operate fairly inefficiently. It consumes a
tremendous amount of energy "spinning" as it awaits its time to generate.
With so much wind in service, now coal plants are beginning to cycle, which is
counter-productive to bag house and other emission-controlling devices. Some
coal plants are now out of compliance with EPA standards due entirely to wind
causing them to cycle. The result is much higher emissions from these coal
plants.
If the goal of wind was to reduce our carbon footprint, it and we have failed.
